Dervish and sultan

One of the dervishes who was living all alone in the desert and the sultan was passing by there. He did not care about things of this earth and life so he didn’t even look at the sultan’s face, he ignored him.

The sultan was very angry and said:

“You are like an animal, you have no manners!”

Then vizier came closer to the dervish and said:

“How could you dare to ignore him while he was passing in front of you?”

Dervish replied:

“Go and tell him that he can expect such respect from people who need his help, who ask him for money and also please remind him that the sultan’s duty is to serve and save people. People and society were not created to worship the sultan! He can have everything he needs property, money and so on but in fact he is the guardian of the poor! Sheep were not created to serve the shepherd but he can do something useful for sheep. Poor or rich, we will die one day and we will be equal in the end. If somebody digs graves for us, being poor or rich will he be able to see any difference?”

The sultan was sad this time and asked:

“Dervish, please do me a favour, ask whatever you want from me.”

He replied:

“All I want is, give me peace, do not bother me, do not disturb me anymore.”

The sultan spoke again:

“So, please give me just one piece of advice for my lifetime!”

Dervish:

“Count your blessings while you have them! Because one day you will loose all these things, title and what you have, so just enjoy them!”
