Nietzsche and Islam
Friedrich Nietzsche wrote: “God is dead!” However, he never said that there is no God: “We have killed Him.“ and “What are these churches now, if they are not the tombs and monuments of God?“ (The Joyful Wisdom).
The criticism from Nietzsche was directed against Christianity, and not against Islam. Nietzsche never wrote one single negative sentence against Islam – on the contrary. Rather moreover, he observed: “Christianity destroyed for us the whole harvest of ancient civilization, and later it also destroyed for us the whole harvest of Mohammedan civilization. The wonderful culture of the Moors in Spain, which was fundamentally nearer to us and appealed more to our senses and tastes than that of Rome and Greece, was trampled down.“ (The Antichrist).
