The prohibition that women can’t make a journey alone, is against the Quran!
According to narrations, a woman can’t make a journey alone without a male of her family. In the Quran there are no verses that forbid women from making a journey alone. Quite on the contrary, the Quran orders all muslims, without discrimination between mend and women, to make journeys for culture, science, research and worship (haj). In the Quran it could be seen that women travel alone (Maryam 19:16). “Say (O Muhammad): Travel in the land and see how He originated creation…” (al-Ankabut 29:20).
The knowledge that Allah restricts journeys to 90 km (56 miles) isn’t based on the Quran or narrations, but on the opinions of scholars. The only condition about the journey that is necessary for both men and women is safety. (Saba’ 34:18).
In conclusion, according to the Quran, if safety is available, a woman can make a journey for her duty, to travel, or to worship. She can do it alone, with friends or in a group. There isn’t any prohibition.
