The Quran Forbids Child Marriage
According to the Quran certain conditions are necessary for a marriage. As these conditions cannot be met or are possible with children, the Quran doesn’t allow children to be married off:
* Age of marriage [Balaghun nikaah بَلَغُوا النِّكَاحَۚ] (an-Nisa 4:6).
* Maturity / capability / judgment [Rushdan رُشْدًا] (an-Nisa 4:6).
* A girl has to protect herself and her chastity
[Muhsanaatu الْمُحْصَنَاتُ] like a castle [Khisn حصن](al-Maidah 5:5).
Note: The 4th verse of the 65th surah al-Talaq is about divorce, not marriage. Those who are referred to are not children, but women who didn’t have menstruation (secondary amenorrhea), because the negative word Lam لَمْ means only “not,” not “not yet.” Therefore it referred to women, not children.
