What Does “Killing Twice and Creating Twice” Mean in the Quran? (Is It Evidence for Reincarnation?)
“He created death and life to test which of you would be better in deeds.” (Mulk [67] 2).
“How can you knowingly reject Allah? You were dead, and He gave you life. Then He will cause you to die, then bring you back to life. Then you will be returned to Him.” (Al-Baqarah [2] 28. Also: Al-Mu’min / Al-Ghafir [40] 11).
“They will not taste death there except the first death.” (Duhan [44] 56).
Looking at the relevant verses together, the following conclusion emerges:
Allah first created inanimate matter in the universe, such as stones and soil. All living things were dead. Then Allah gave life to inanimate matter and brought it to life. Then He killed them. Thus, they became dead a second time. Then He will resurrect them in the Hereafter. This is what is described by killing twice and resurrecting twice. The first death in the verses does not mean killing while alive. It should also be remembered that these expressions of killing twice and resurrecting twice cannot be evidence for reincarnation.
