Was woman created from the rib of the man?
According to the Old Testament, woman was created as an assistant for man, so that he wouldn’t feel lonely. Therefore God let Adam fall into a very deep sleep, and took one of his ribs and created woman from it (Genesis 2:18-23).
However, there’s nothing in the Quran about such a view (an-Nisa 4:1). According to the Quran, Allah first created the female nafsin wahidatin (First living, first being) نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ . He has created from the nafsin wahidatin his spouse (Zawj زَوْجَ ). After that, he created from this, the first human generation of both, men and women.
The nafsin wahidatin couldn’t have been Adam, as the Exegesis (Tafsir) argued, because nafsin-wahidatin is female and nakrah (indefinite). However, Adam is masculine and marifah (definite). If Adam was meant with nafsin wahidatin, then “minhu [from him]” مِنْهُ should have been used thus the masculine form at an-Nisa 4:1. But “minha [from her]” مِنْهَا , is used, thus the feminine form. Even though shows that with nafsin wahidatin Adam is not meant! (Also see: al-Hujurat 49:13 [ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثىٰ]; al-A’raf 7:11 [كُم]; Fatir 35:11 [أَزواجًا]).
Although the creation of women in the ahadith tells us that she was created from the rib of the man, are absolutely contrary to the Quran. The knowledge is Israiliyyat and based on Jewish tradition. Therefore, woman was created not from man, but from the same material!
