Why Tulip and Rose?

Allah – Hilal – Tulip

There is no likeness or likeness to Allah. Nevertheless, our ancestors sought to find a symbol for Him. Ultimately, they chose the crescent moon (Hilal), which bears the same letters as the word “Allah.” Not only are the letters in both words the same, but according to the “abjad” system—which assigns numerical values to letters—the abjad values of both “Allah” and “Hilal” are 66. For this reason, the crescent is generally used in religious structures and works of art. This helps shed some light on why the crescent appears on the domes of mosques and on the flag. Similarly, the letters in the word “Allah” are also found in the tulip (In Ottoman: LALE). It is said that our Prophet loved roses very much. In Turkish Islamic literature and art, just as the tulip symbolizes Allah, the rose has represented our Prophet. Thus, “The Tulip and the Rose” symbolize the two entities we value most.
