Are religions responsible for wars?

In the Encyclopaedia of Wars 1763 wars were investigated (Charles Phillips, Alan Axelrod, Encyclopedia of Wars, Facts on File, New York 2004). Of these 1763 wars only 123 were caused by reasons of religion. This means that these 123 wars caused by reasons of religion are only 7% of the 1763 wars. The people killed in all of the wars caused by reasons of religion are less than 2%.
