Context of the Verse: “Take What the Prophet Gives You.” (al-Hashr 7)
“And the Fai (revenues yielded without fighting and making any effort) Allah has given to His Messenger from the people of that city belong to Allah, the Messenger, those poor who have immigrated, orphans, the needy and travelers so the luxury brought by the power; the authority will not only be for the rich among you. Whatever the Messenger has given you, take it immediately. And whatever he has forbidden you, turn away from it…” (al-Hashr [59] 7).
This verse clarifies what happens to “fai,” the property left behind by enemies who are expelled from their homes because they broke the treaty.
“Fai” means revenues that are obtained effortlessly without fighting. These “fai,” belongs to those mentioned in the verse, so that it does not circulate only among the rich. This is the meaning and context of the verse.
This verse is not evidence that the Prophet had the authority to rule. This verse refers to the distribution of the fai and means, “Respect whatever the Messenger of Allah does in the matter of the fai, take what he gives and do not ask for what he does not give.”
