Non-Muslim Countries are Living Best lslamic Values
In 2010, Sheherazade S. Rehman and Hossein Askari from George Washington University included an index showing the “Islamism” of countries (An Economic IslamicityIndex) in the international academic journal Global Economy Journal.
With the Islamicity Index, it was examined whether the state administration practices of the countries, without discrimination of religion, were in line with Islamic values: Equal economic opportunities and justice, human rights and political rights, education and employment opportunities, prevention of poverty and corruption, abolition of interest, efficiency, protection of contracts and property rights. etc.
There are no Islamic Countries in the Top 10 in the Islamism Index results. Malaysia, which managed to get into the list as the majority of its population is Muslim, ranks 33rd. With this study, the difference between so-called possessing Islamic values and practicing them is better understood.
