The names of Allah (al-Asma al-Husna) are more than 99!
“His are the Most Beautiful Names.” (Ta-ha 20:8).
Al-Asma al-Husna is a special term which is used for the names of Allah. We can know our Lord better by His every different name. For example, we understand with the name “al-Baseer” that Allah sees everything and nothing can be hidden from him. His name “as-Samee” reminds us, that He hears and registers everything that we say. In the hereafter we’ll listen to them again during the judgement. According to common knowledge, Allah has 99 names. The source for this knowledge is some narrations. However, according to the Quran the numbers are more.
The associate professor Ismail Karagoz wrote the book about the names of Allah, which was printed in 2011 by the religious affairs administration of Turkey. In this book the names in the Quran were indicated as 119. Therefore the traditional number 99 is against the Quran.
